Use case
Whenever I come across something interesting while scrolling on my phone, I capture it and save it to my Obsidian vaults along with a comment. This way, I can easily find the note with the picture and understand it later.
The process of capturing notes and saving them is incredibly simple and streamlined. Since it only takes me less than 30 seconds to do so, I'm able to save a lot more ideas than I would if the process were more cumbersome. Additionally, by saving my notes to Obsidian, I'm able to easily find and access them later on when I need them.
Thanks to the background work of Shortcuts, I don't have to worry about app freezes or slow opening of Obsidian. With Shortcuts, my notes are automatically organized and saved, which means I can quickly and easily find the information I need. The added convenience of being able to search for notes and filter them by topic or date also helps me to write more efficiently and effectively.
Why I created this
Obsidian is my favorite note-taking app. I find that I get a lot of my best ideas when I'm on the go, so I often use my phone to jot them down. However, I've noticed that Obsidian can take some time to load on mobile, which can be frustrating when I'm in a hurry. To combat this, I created a simple system for quickly recording my ideas as soon as they come to me. That way, I never have to worry about losing a great idea just because I didn't have time to open Obsidian.
Since implementing this system, I've found that I'm writing a lot more on my phone than I used to. It's just so much easier to quickly jot down my thoughts without having to deal with the friction of opening a complicated app. Overall, I think this has been a really effective way for me to make the most of my ideas, no matter where I am or what I'm doing.
How to setup
If you use iCloud to sync your Obsidian vault, you can set up this simple shortcut by following these steps:
- Download the shortcut from here
- Choose a specific folder in your iCloud where you want to save the file in Obsidian.
- Open the shortcut on your phone → Tap and set the “Save input to” to the folder you have chosen to save your file in Obsidian.
